Testimonials

I've been taught by Marie since the age of 9...I'm now 17 and taking grade 8 flute. She is patient and kind but has most importantly encouraged my love of music.

Helena (student)

Marie was recommended to me by staff at Windstruments in Bingley. My son had been playing the saxophone for a year or so but had not made much progress. As soon as he started lessons with Marie his playing improved and he is now proud of himself when he masters a new piece. Marie understands exactly how to support students, she caters to the needs and musical aspirations of each and keeps parents updated too. I have no hesitation in recommending Marie, she is an excellent music teacher.

Marie Whitaker has been my clarinet teacher for the last three years. She took on a largely self-taught mature student with little musical experience, appalling timing and rhythm, but a desire to learn to play Mozart's sublime Concerto in A major, KV622. Marie is the most patient and thoughtful of teachers. She has a wonderful repertoire of encouraging comments that make tackling the challenges of learning an instrument and playing music a pleasure. She directs my music making across theory, exercises and tunes lightly, yet when I reflect on what I am learning I appreciate how Marie brings a deep knowledge of music to her pedagogic choices. I look forward to each and every lesson because I know I will learn something new, I will be stretched, and I am one small step closer to playing Mozart's Concerto in A major as well as I can.

Nick (adult student)

Marie has given each of our daughters a wonderful start on their respective instruments (alto sax and flute) and we consider ourselves very fortunate that they have enjoyed the benefit of her experience, patience and encouragement over the years. Marie sets high standards of expected behaviour and of progress. Under her careful guidance, Libby achieved her Grade 4, while Alice now prepares for her Grade 2. Thanks to Marie, we are confident our daughters have been given the best possible grounding in terms of instrumental technique, musical knowledge and general musicianship.
